Work With the Winemaker — April 2025
A hands-on harvest celebration during Orange FOOD Week
To mark the end of harvest and the spirit of the season, we wrapped up with a very special edition of Work With the Winemaker — an immersive day that gave our guests a taste of vineyard life, framed by stories, food, and the rhythm of winemaking.
As part of Orange FOOD Week, we welcomed an enthusiastic group of assistant winemakers to the farm on a sunny autumn Friday. The day began with picking the last of our Syrah, followed by time in the winery learning about the daily rituals that define vintage — from pressing to cellar prep to the quiet moments in between.
Harvest Hospitality
No ChaLou experience is complete without something delicious to eat — and this day was no exception. Morning tea featured a warmly spiced apple loaf made with homegrown apples, and lunch was a true highlight, lovingly prepared by Nadja using one of her mum’s family recipes.
We gathered around a long table for a hearty, relaxed meal paired, of course, with ChaLou wines straight from the source.
Why It Matters
This event is one of our favourites: intimate, grounded and deeply personal. There’s something meaningful about inviting others into the process — to see the land, feel the work, and share stories over a harvest meal.
Each year, Work With the Winemaker allows us to connect in a way that goes beyond the glass. It’s a reminder that wine is about people — and that community makes every vintage possible.
